Bargaining Update: Fourth Session Recap

Negotiations Update: February 5, 2026

Hello friends!

Yesterday was our fourth bargaining meeting where we presented our proposals for reclaiming faculty value, voice and worth. We have now presented all of our significant proposals (we still have one more article to present on Intellectual Property and AI) and we anticipate administration responding with their proposals in the near future.

We have shifted to an every-other week schedule & our next bargaining session will be Thursday, February 19 from 3-5 in Grandview. Your presence makes a HUGE difference so please bring some work, grab a friend and come join us!

What we Proposed

(Full Proposals can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/39jafj4c)

Article 8: Evaluation, Plans of Improvement & Personnel Files

  • Clarity and alignment with the GPM.

  • Shared expectation that faculty work is 85% primary assignment and 15% service and professional improvement for the purposes of evaluation, consistent with current practice and practice at other institutions.

Article 9: Professional Improvement

We are asking for a more efficient and streamlined PIP process:

  • Options: Tenured faculty can choose to do a 4-year PIP or an Activity-based PIP.

  • Efficiency: Faculty document the connection between the activity and their PIP in the funding request but administration does not need to confirm that before approving the request, thus speeding up the process, reducing the administrative workload and trusting faculty to know what professional activities they need.

  • Funding: Proposing a modest increase in PIP funds to account for inflation for both FT and Adjunct faculty.

Article 12: Academic Freedom

  • CBA Integration: Incorporating GPM policy into the CBA & adding grading protections for faculty.

Article 15: Fringe Benefits

  • Adjunct Parity: Proportional adjunct Benefits based on number of credits taught.

  • Personal Days: Increasing personal days for FT and Adjunct faculty and removing restrictions related to holidays.

  • Health Insurance: Changing health insurance pick up to 95% college & 5% faculty to reflect increases in health care costs.

  • Sabbaticals: Increasing sabbatical terms to 9 and adding language to allow for more flexibility in sabbaticals to encourage CTE faculty to apply.

  • Retirement: Adding an Early Retirement option for qualifying faculty.
